Comic Transcript

Professor Brainley is standing in front of a device with a number of adjustable levers, knobs, and some sort of meter display. The dial on the meter can point to either "Replace" or "Good" or somewhere in between; it currently points to "Replace". There are also a number of tubes fitted into slots on the surface of the device, with a dark substance in them.

Brainley: As we all know, the Internet is a series of tubes.

Brainley: Now, I have taken those tubes --

Dobbsey (interrupting): Is that why I can't check my university email?

Brainley: -- and placed them in a standard vacuum tube tester.

Zoom in on the device.

Brainley: With this, we should be able to get to the root of what's wrong with today's Internet.

Zoom back out. Dobbsey is examining the device.

Dobbsey: Wait, vacuum tubes? That's not vacuum. That's mud.

Brainley: Aha, that's the problem! The Internet is full of sludge!
