Comic Transcript

Brainley is standing near an erlenmeyer flask and a stack of bread slices.

Brainley: Ah ha! My catalyst for the Maillard reaction is complete! Now at last I have control over the chemical reaction that turns bread into toast!

Cut to a close-up of dramatic-looking toast.

Brainley (narrating): Just imagine - instant toast, whenever you want! No toaster needed!

Cut back to Brainley. The bread has gone away and been replaced with a duck.

Brainley: Wait a minute! This isn't the Maillard reaction! This is the Mallard reaction!

The Maillard Reaction was discovered by Louis Camille Maillard, who, as far as I can tell, was not a duck. However, he did have a suspiciously duck-shaped mustache.
